BIOFEEDBACK MECHANISM

Interactive health massage refers to a medical massage therapy that involves some feedback mechanism to check whether the massage is achieving the desired results or not. During such interactive health massage, the feedback process allows for adjustments to arrive at the target health benefits.

Physical therapists employ a biofeedback device that allows them to check for muscle activity by measuring the electrical impulses generated by the muscle movement. Having such a device on hand allows the therapist to make real time adjustments to the interactive health massage in order for the patient to fully benefit from the session. In most cases, the interactive needs to be increased in duration or force applied to achieve the desired therapeutic effects.

A medical massage therapist need not necessarily be a licensed physical therapist. They can be certified masseuse with additional training in the administration of medical massage therapies. A physical therapist can supervise the therapy session with the massage therapist administering the interactive health massage as needed by the patient.

DEPENDING ON THERAPY PLAN

Usually the interactive health massage is given at the end of a therapy session. But this can vary depending on the gravity of the patient’s medical condition. Some patients with very little control over their muscle movements have to be massaged frequently to prevent muscle atrophy. Interactive health massage is also beneficial to reduce spasticity or rigidity and to keep the muscles stimulated. A clinical massage therapy is indicated to keep the muscles strong until self control is regained.

Clinical massage therapy is usually indicated for people who have suffered accidents and stroke. Depending on the severity of the injury or lesions involved an interactive health massage may be palliative or therapeutic as the case may be. For those whose injuries are severe with massive loss of function, the clinical massage therapy is given to lessen the patient’s pain and discomfort.
