The AARP, established in 1958, used to be known as American Association of Retired Persons. Sixty days after your policy becomes effective, the policy cannot be canceled or not renewed, unless you don’t pay the premiums or you expose your house to additional risk.

In addition, you can request discounts for retirees, multiple policies, security systems and new homes. You actually have more options under the AARP homeowners insurance program, so that you can tailor your policy to fit your needs. You can purchase special plans for extra protection above the basic policy limits for your jewelry, silverware and valuables, your fur coats and your boat. Your plan may even cover the cost of the food in your refrigerator that gets spoiled in case of a power outage.
