What if you aren’t a lawyer denver but have questions as a member of the public?
Why can’t the bar association offer legal assistance?

The Bar Association is an organization of voluntary member legal professionals and attorneys. They are dedicated to serving the public, advancing the interests of the legal profession and improving justice administration – but they don’t have a staff of attorneys to give legal advice or answer legal questions. However they have a directory where you can find a lawyer on their website. They also provide information about clinics and other resources if you are looking for legal advice.

What is a clinic?
These are designed for the do-it-yourself litigant (pro se). They provide information about legal forms and processes. They are staffed by volunteer attorneys who cannot, however, give specific or detailed answers about any unique individual circumstance, help complete specific individual forms, give specific legal advice for you as an individual or provide you with individual representation.

Can you make your own will?
Yes, you can – and to help you, you can find state specific will forms, living will, power of attorney kits for multiple wills where you can fill in the blanks. Office suppliers and legal stationers also have forms for wills and related documents – but they are not usually state specific.

Are you a member of the bar association and have some question?
Can I become a bar member if I don’t have a license to practice law in the state?
Yes – you just have to be licensed in any other state.

What are the different categories of bar membership?
There are 3 categories which are based on how many years you have been licensed to practice:
• Senior – licensed for more than 8 years
• Intermediate – licensed for more than 4 years and less than 8 years
• Junior – less than 4 years.
