( Telephony )

Voice Over Internet Protocol, or VOIP, is growing to be more popular. VOIP allows people to make cheap, sometimes even free calls online. In the old days of dial-up connections, voice calls had to be put on hold because using the Internet also meant using a phone line. As high-speed Internet use becomes more widespread, VOIP service is also gaining usage.

Basic VOIP systems entail that users sign up for an online account. They are then assigned an Internet phone number. If they are online, they can be called through that Internet phone number. All they need is a headset and microphone. In some VOIP systems, a VOIP phone is needed.

VOIP Equipment

A VOIP router and VOIP phone are only one of the few pieces of VOIP equipment now available. A VOIP phone can be advantageous to offices: such phones can allow employees to communicate each other even while they are using the Internet. Currently, however, VOIP phones and VOIP lines have not yet been fully developed, and users often complain of static or calls that are abruptly cut off.

With more advances, however, VOIP equipment will improve and serve more people. VOIP systems may also be better equipped to handle millions of calls at once, which is often the case with large companies that have many satellite offices abroad.

VOIP Courses

There are also introductory classes being offered to teach people about the features and benefits of VOIP communication. The offerings of these VOIP courses can be browsed online, and attendees can have hands-on experiencing in using VOIP systems, as well as in setting up VOIP equipment.

VOIP service facilities still have a long way to go before they are fully developed to meet the needs of both private users and businesses. When VOIP equipment is finally improved, it can allow better, cheaper communication for all kinds of users wherever in the world they may be.
