Your vision problems are commonly addressed by wearing corrective eyeglasses and contact lenses but over the years, research has improved and corrective eye surgery was introduced. Today, it is fast becoming a formidable choice for people who want to get rid of lenses on their eyes. Whether it’s for convenience or physical attractiveness, corrective eye surgery seems more appealing than lenses. Moreover, the result is mostly permanent and spares you from going to your optometrist to upgrade or downgrade your prescription.

A popular corrective eye surgery procedure is called the Implantable Contact Lens. As the name suggests, thin contact lenses will be placed over your eye’s natural lenses. It won’t need maintenance at all so you don’t need those lubricants and solutions anymore. This procedure is reversible and addresses nearsightedness and farsightedness. For cataract patients, a similar procedure is done but uses Intraocular lenses instead.

Another corrective surgery method is the CK or the Conductive Keratoplasty wherein mild heat coming from radio waves modifies the shape of the cornea. In the same way, laser corrective eye surgery such as Laser Thermal Keratoplasty works by using mild heat to reduce collagen size at the rim of the cornea. This can treat farsightedness too, as well as presbyopia. The procedure is rather quick, taking about only three seconds. Presbyopia can also be treated using the Scleral Expansion Bands procedure. It is not recommended however as the FDA has not given their approval for this process yet.

There are many corrective surgery options available today, even more than the procedures mentioned above. But before you undergo one, you need to make extensive research and consult your eye specialist to determine the most suitable for you. Also, be prepared to shell out a considerable amount since surgery requires more money than contact lens or eyeglasses.
