Background of Pacificare and Secure Horizons

PacifiCare Health Systems is one of the best known health care insurance companies in the country, underwriting various indemnity insurance products like preferred provider organizations and other medical and dental plans. PacifiCare health insurance services are available in various states, with branches such as PacifiCare Arizona and PacifiCare of Washington. Recently, PacifiCare merged with United Health to expand and improve its health care services to more than sixty million American residents.

PacifiCare Secure Horizons is one of the group's subsidiaries whose goal is to serve patients over age 65, as a health plan which complements the Medicare system. Secure Horizons was a result of a tie-up between the government's Medicare system and various private health care providers such as the PacifiCare insurance group. As a supplemental health care provider, PacifiCare Secure Horizons covers health care services that Medicare cannot provide for senior citizens.

Health Care Plan Coverage Options Under PacifiCare Secure Horizons

If you are a senior citizen, you can choose from several coverage options under PacifiCare Secure Horizons.

The Medicare Advantage Plan generally provides all the services under the Medicare plan, plus some additional non-Medicare services. As a member of this plan, you have the advantage of lower copayments and very minimal premiums. However, Medical Advantage does not replace your Medicare plan, and you still need to be actively enrolled under the original Medicare program to be eligible for Medicare Advantage.

Under the Medicare Advantage Plan, you also need to choose the type of physician network - health maintenance organization or HMO, preferred provider organization or PPO, or private fee for service. Your choice of doctors is very limited under HMO and PPO networks, but you also pay less premiums.

The Medicare Advantage Plan also has a Special Needs variation and is offered to seniors who have chronic conditions or disabilities that require hospice or institutional care.

PacifiCare Secure Horizons also offers the Medigap insurance to pay for deductibles, copayments and services that are otherwise not covered by your regular Medicare plan.

You also have the option of enrolling in Secure Horizon's prescription plan, which covers your expenses for prescription drugs.

Conditions for Enrolling in PacifiCare Secure Horizons

You will receive all your medical services such as consultations and treatments at a PacifiCare provider. You don't need to sign any claim forms when you use the plan, nor pay any deductibles.

You must be at least 65 or older to be eligible for PacifiCare Secure Horizons. If you are under 65, you need to enrol in PacifiCare's other regular health plans. For further inquiries, you can contact PacifiCare through the toll-free number or at the website.
