Relocation is a Tedious Process

When you relocate your home or office, you need to bring a lot of things with you. Unless you plan to sell off all your furniture and appliances, you need a moving van to transport these to your new address.

A moving van can easily fit all of your personal effects in one compartment, so that you can transport everything in just one trip. When you rent a moving van, you can also hire some assistants to help you carry your things out of the old home into the van compartment, and finally, to your new home.

Moving Van Options

If you're lucky, you may have a friend or relative who has a truck that you can borrow for moving your things. Chances are, very few people own such trucks, or their trucks may not be big enough. Therefore you will need to rent a moving van either from a car and truck rental or from a company that specializes in relocation services.

There are several sizes of moving vans, from a smaller do-it-yourself type that you can drive on your own, or bigger units which definitely require some assistance from at least two other people.

The do-it-yourself moving van would be the cheapest, because you only need to pick up the truck and then return it after you move. Or if there is a big distance between the two addresses, you can drop off the vehicle at a designated depot or office of the moving van company.

You also need to choose the date and exact time you will pick up the moving van, as well as the approximate time you can return it.

The moving van company also gives you the option of renting a car for your family to ride in, and of buying storage boxes for placing the items to be moved.

Moving van rentals don't cost a lot of money. The cheapest rentals are a little below twenty dollars per day.

How to Decide on a Moving Van

You should confirm the cost of the moving van rental service. You need to know if the rental rate is for one-way or two-way trips, and if it is inclusive of taxes and van insurance.

Even though some moving van companies may charge a bit higher, price is not always everything. You should examine the safety features of the moving van, and make sure that its door handles are properly, to ensure that your things will not be thrown out in case the van needs to make sharp turns or stops.

You should look at the condition of the moving van, and check that the engine and brakes are functioning. The tires should also be in good working order so that you don't stall on the road with a flat tire.

You may also want to check for any package deals or special promotions that the moving van company may offer.
