Perhaps the domain name that you want for your website has already been taken. If that's the case, you may want to find out the name of the owner of that particular domain name. If you're lucky, the owner may sell and subsequently transfer the ownership of the name to you. The process may sound easy. But when you buy domain names that already exist, you must be ready to pay the price.

There are some people who buy domain names by the bulk for purely speculative reasons. They hope to sell these domain names to third persons at exorbitant prices and gain profit from the domain name buy. If the domain name you hope to acquire belongs to any of these speculators, you should expect to pay a substantial amount of money.

But should you happen to find owners who seem to have lost interest over their expired domain names, you may be able to buy domain names at a lesser cost. But before you even show interest on acquiring the rights over those expired domain names, you should conduct an independent investigation on the name's history.

You do not want to buy domain names that search engines have banned permanently because of spamming. You will most likely find adult and gambling sites that employ spamming tactics by linking together the domain names to boost their search engine ranking. Upon the discovery of these spam sites by search engines, the uniform resource locators (URLs) of these sites are perpetually banned causing the domain names to become worthless.

Even if you are able to get cheap domain name registration, you'll have to work for link popularity, to create good website content and to optimize your web pages for easy detection by target search engines. But if you buy domain names without value, you will never attain good rankings.
