There are a number of diabetes testing supplies that diabetic patients need for home testing, and when they are on travel. These diabetes supplies include lancets, which are used to pierce the finger, and other piercing devices that may allow you to get blood samples from your arm. There are also sticks and tablets used for blood and urine testing. Depending on the gravity of your diabetes, it may be practical to own complete diabetes equipment to monitor your blood glucose level.

Urine Tests

To conduct test for glucose level in your urine, you need diabetes testing supplies, such as tablet and stick tests. There are also diabetes testing supplies that allow you to test for glucose and ketones in your urine at the same time. You may need some test strips to check for small amounts of protein in your urine.

Lancets

Lancets must be sharp, and easy to hold. Lancets are available for machine use, and by hand. Not all of these diabetes testing supplies may fit a lancing device. There are pen-shaped lancing devices, while others have platforms designed to control the depth of penetration when you pierce your finger.

Some lancing devices allow you to get blood from the side of your hand, or from your arm. Some doctors would recommend getting blood samples only from your fingers because they argue that the delay in getting blood sample from the arm may not produce a correct glucose reading. Nonetheless, if your doctor does not prohibit these types of diabetes testing supplies, make sure to rub the target site on your arm prior to getting a blood sample.

Sticks

When a diabetes machine is not available, you can use sight-reading blood-glucose test strips. You can read the results within two minutes after you put in the blood sample. However, these diabetes testing supplies are less accurate.
