Prepaid Wireless Phone Cards on the Go

Before you can get a regular cell phone plan, better known as postpaid plan, you need to submit specific requirements to the plan provider, such as your social security and credit card account numbers.

If you wish to remain anonymous or are constantly moving from one place to another, you would prefer not to use regular postpaid plans. Instead, you would settle for prepaid wireless phone cards.

How to Use Prepaid Wireless Phone Cards

All you need is to buy a cell phone unit, then you can get a prepaid wireless card. Each card has an access code that you can key to open the connection. You can then start using your cell phone.

Each prepaid wireless card has an expiration date and limited number of minutes and text message credits. As you use your cell phone, the number of minutes and credits get depleted. If you haven't used up all your credits but have reinstalled a new phone card, your credits will be carried over and added to the new card's credits. However, this applies only if you have used the same carrier's wireless phone card.

Unlike a regular phone plan which charges you a monthly service fee, the wireless phone card charges no service activation fees and is used on a pay-as-you-go basis.

You can buy prepaid wireless cards through local dealers or online sources. If you are buying online, you can have the carrier send you the access code via e-mail or text messaging.

Pros and Cons of Using Prepaid Wireless Phone Cards

Like regular postpaid phone plans, the prepaid wireless card can be used for both domestic and international calls. The calling rates depend on where you are calling from, and which country or state you are trying to reach. The rates can either be higher or lower than that of regular plans.

Prepaid wireless phone cards have a shorter activation life than regular plans. If you use different carriers each time, the leftover minutes from a previous card will not get carried over to the next card's minutes. The number of free minutes of prepaid wireless phone cards is also much less than that of a regular plan.

As prepaid wireless cards also have expiry dates, you need to use up the minutes and credits as soon as possible, otherwise you lose them forever.
