You would not want to throw away those VHS videotapes that captured and stored lots of your precious memories, such as family reunions, birthday and holiday celebrations, your high school and college graduations, and your wedding day. Although VHS technology is seldom used now, you can still watch those tapes by converting VHS copies to DVD copies. If the conversion from VHS black and white copies, or color copies to DVD copies will be done correctly, your DVD copies can come out better than the original VHS videos.

A popular method of converting VHS color copies to DVD copies is through an analog-to-DV computer. This device uses video editing software that captures the data in your VHS video. You can then convert the copy to an MPEG-2 file from which you can make DVD copies. This method takes time but makes video editing possible. You may want to include background music, and some special effects in your DVD copies.

Another method to convert VHS copies to DVD copies is by employing hardware capture devices which convert VHS data directly to MPEG-2 during capture, after which you proceed to burn the DVD. The time it will take to capture the video depends on the length of the VHS. This method saves much of your time if there is no need to edit your original videos before you transfer them into DVD copies.

You can also convert your VHS to DVD by connecting your VHS to a separate DVD recorder. Playing back the VHS enables the DVD recorder to simultaneously make DVD copies of the VHS tape. This is the simplest way in converting VHS tapes to DVD copies, but you cannot do much editing in this type of method.

With the availability of methods of converting your VHS tapes into DVD copies, you can still keep those prized memories alive.
