You may have to provide your employees with equipment such as a drafting table and lift table to maximize their productivity and avoid work-related injuries. A lift table elevates the work to be done to levels proportionate to the individual worker's size. Its basic form consists of a fixed base that stabilizes the unit, a scissors assembly that supports the platform throughout the movement of the unit, a platform where one places the payload, and the mechanism for raising and lowering the platform through application of force.

The basic function of the lift table is to lower or raise a payload according to desired levels. It is often used in transferring palletized goods. An operator places the pallet on the lift table top at its lowest position. The operator will then unload the pallet onto a conveyor, adjusting levels as needed, without having to bend over to reach the goods. This makes the equipment ergonomic since the need to bend is eliminated, thus protecting the lower back of your workers from being injured.

Lift tables employ power to raise and gravity to lower the platform. You may be more interested in some sophisticated lift tables that use power for movement in either direction. If you want a motor-driven lift table, its controls may consist of a push button or joystick, or it can also be foot-activated. Some automated lift tables with a programmable logic controller are also available.

There are many different means to power table top units. Payload, mobility, speed, convenience and cost are the parameters that control the type of actuator required. You can use electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic actuators if your payloads are up to 4,000 lbs. Some models of lift tables have battery systems, which give the tables more mobility for use throughout your facility without need for proximity to an electric outlet.
