The Trouble with Large Files

Many computer files may be very large, and therefore cannot fit into one floppy diskette, CD or DVD. Instead you need to split up the file into smaller parts.

But you cannot do this just arbitrarily. You need special software like Cut File or Quick Cuts to do the job, so that all parts of your file will be safely saved and transferred to another computer.

What Cut File Software Can Do

Cut File software can split your file into smaller parts. Then when you have completely split up the files, you can save them onto smaller storage space, such as a 1.44 MB floppy disk, or a 700 MB CD. You can also send the file in smaller parts through e-mail, so that your recipient won't have to take a long time downloading them.

The Cut File software can cut the file into equal parts, or based on the type of portable storage you are saving it to.

Then when all the files have been split and saved, you can now upload them from your floppy disk, e-mail or CD onto another computer. Cut File can rejoin the files to each other safely, and you will not lose a byte. You can then save the new file and it will be just as complete as the original one you copied from.

Benefits and Limitations of Cut File Software

You don't need to worry about losing your files when you have to split and save them. This is especially important in cases where you need to reformat your computer and therefore have to save all your files in a temporary place.

You can create backup copies of all your files, large or small. The Cut File software can easily determine at what level your file can be split. If you wish, you can also indicate where you want it to split.

Cut File software is compatible with WAV, MP3, WMA and OGG file types. There is no need to convert the file.

Where to Find Cut File Software

You may also want to do file splitting through a web-based site. Some sites offer the services for free if you download the shareware verbsion. Other sites require you to pay a small fee to use their software.

When you get the software, try testing it out first with one large file to see if it works. After you have confirmed that it works well, then you can try it on your other files.
