Ladybugs as Design Themes

Considered a symbol of good luck, the ladybug has found its way in many of the things we use everyday. There are ladybug checks, costumes, and even a Ladybug steam cleaner.

Because of its easy to make design, the ladybug has also become a favorite party theme among toddlers and preschoolers. There are even websites that feature tips for organizing parties with a ladybug theme.

How to Get Started on Your Ladybug Party

Planning a party starts with sending the invitations. You can just make the invitations yourself or with your kids, by using red cardboard or construction paper cut into a ladybug shape with spots drawn or pasted on it.

For something less tedious, you can just buy plain invitations, then place ladybug stickers on them. You can also print ladybug drawings using your computer, then cut and paste the printed image onto the invitations.

Ladybug Party Decors

You can decorate your party area with ladybug balloons. Just buy or blow up red balloons, then paint them with black spots and paste strips of black paper to serve as antennae and legs.

For a garden party, you can also hang ladybug cutouts or mobiles on trees and bushes. Your mobiles can be made from round-shaped construction paper, cardboard or styrofoam.

You can try finding ladybug-designed disposable tablecloth for the party table. If you're unable to find one, you can just get a plain white or red tablecloth and paint or paste ladybug designs on it.

Party Food with a Ladybug Theme

If you have the penchant for baking, you can design a round cake using red frosting, then dot the cake with round chocolate cookies or candy. Or you can make cupcakes and cover them with red frosting and round chocolate pieces.

You can serve strawberry ice cream dotted with round chocolate pieces. You can also make red-colored gelatine in round molds and top them with the chocolate.

Ladybug Party Games

You can have the party guests make their own ladybug costume using large red and black paper. Then the children can wear the costume during the party.

Instead of using regular chairs, make artificial leaves and place them on the ground. The children can use the leaves for playing musical chairs or other party games.

Use a ladybug's picture instead of a donkey's, where the contestant can pin the antennae or place dots on the ladybug's wings.

You can purchase fake ladybug figures or stuffed toys from the thrift store and use them for treasure hunting games.

Older children can try flying ladybug designed kites or throw ladybug designed frisbees.

Ladybug Party Favors

For party favors, you can give ladybug stickers, wind-up figures, balloons, caps and stuffed toys. You can make some of the favors yourself or buy them from party retailers or online sites.

With a little ingenuity, you can come up with countless other ideas for a great ladybug party.
