The Nile is the longest river of the world at 6700 kilometers, and Nile River cruises are Egypt's most popular tourism product. A Nile River cruise is both a convenient and a romantic way of seeing the antiquities of Egypt. Cruising the Nile has the benefit of having an accommodation in a floating hotel, and evading the strenuous trip via rail or road for sightseeing.

There are plenty of vessels operating Nile River cruises. Vessel types range from unclassified to 5-star (the floating hotels), where 5-star vessels have three times more cabins than the 2-star vessels. Most of the cabins have two berths. Hence, you can lower your cost for a Nile River cruise if you have a companion who can share the cabin price with you. Vessels with more expensive accommodation have facilities that include entertainment lounge, boutiques, restaurant, sundeck with bar, games area and small swimming pool.

The major stretch where Nile River cruises traverse is between the Valleys of the Kings, Luxor and Karnak in the north, and Aswan to the south. Majority of the Nile cruises last from three to eleven nights. If you will take shorter trips, the cruise is usually from Luxor to Aswan in one direction only. You will then take a domestic flight to the capital to complete your trip. Longer Nile River cruises allow you to have the time for quality sightseeing. Some tour operators offer arrangements that combine Nile cruises with at least one night hotel stay.

The busiest time for cruises on the Nile is between the months of October and April when the climate is perfect for sightseeing. If you want Nile River cruises at considerably low prices, then you may choose to book during the low summer season. Keep in mind, however, that heat can be extreme at this time of the year.
