Functions of Skid Steer Tracks

Heavy farm and construction vehicles are intended for use on all types of terrain. Much of the terrain is raw land, usually with sandy or rocky ground. It would be difficult for ordinary tires to move through such terrains without help from skid steer tracks.

Skid steer tracks are designed to be attached to the tires of the heavy vehicle. Thus they move with the tires as the vehicles do their job of excavating or hauling ground debris.

You want skid steer tracks to be strong enough to withstand the weight of the vehicle, as well as to be durable enough to go through rough surfaces. There are actually several types of skid steer tracks according to material and size.

Steel Skid Steer Tracks

These are perhaps the most durable and versatile tracks, because they can be used on the most trying surfaces such as mud, snow, ice, and steep inclines. They can go on highways and thus be able to move from one area to another easily. They can be used for forestry clearing and landscaping of blank lots.

Rubber Skid Steer Tracks

Rubber tracks turn your vehicle into a super machine that can move effortlessly on sand and wet terrains where flotation is required.

The rubber skid steer track system has fully replaceable pads, links and bushings.

Urethane Skid Steer Tracks

Rubber skid steer tracks tend to leave dark marks on the surfaces they glide on. If you are particular about this, you may prefer to use urethane skid steer tracks which are as durable and efficient as rubber tracks, but leave no marks on the surfaces. The urethane material makes a very strong yet flexible track.

A great advantage of urethane tracks is that they are quite light and therefore easy to install, even just by one person. This lightweight feature also allows you to drive and maneuver the vehicle more easily. And you can remove and replace any pads that are worn out or damaged.

Which Skid Steer Track to Choose?

It all depends on your needs as far as farming, forestry or construction is concerned. You need steel tracks for tougher and rougher terrains, and rubber or urethane tracks for lighter jobs.

Steel and rubber tracks also cost less than urethane tracks, and the price of the latter almost doubles that of the former.

You also need to consider ease of installation and use, as well costs of maintenance and replacement parts.
