STD genital warts are a sexually transmitted disease now considered the top STD in the US and the number one cause of cervical cancer in females. STD genital warts have more than a hundred virus strains, thirty of which cause genital warts and four causing cervical cancer.

STD genital warts can be passed on to a sexual partner despite the absence of physical symptoms or signs. Thus the virus gets passed on to partners without them ever knowing it. STD genital warts are transmitted through regular sexual intercourse or either anal or oral sex through the exchange of sexual fluids or from touching a person’s infected skin. This is the reason why STD genital warts cases have reach almost epidemic levels with an estimated 6 million new cases recorded each year in this country alone.

STD genital warts symptoms
Although an individual may not immediately show signs of STD genital warts, symptoms usually appear within 3 months after sexual contact with an infected person. These include but are not limited to small raised cauliflower-like bumps or pink spots in the anus or genital area. STD genital warts symptoms are the same for both men and women but are easier to spot in males than in females because the warts are more visible on the penis rather than around or in the vagina.

STD genital warts diagnosis
It is easy to diagnose STD genital warts through a pap smear test or through manual visual inspection. When no physical warts are present, a DNA test will help in determining whether you have cancerous cells or STD genital warts.

STD genital warts treatment
Medical experts have also taken steps to prevent STD genital warts by introducing a new vaccine to help slow its spread. The STD genital warts vaccine is intended for females ranging from 9 to 26 years old with 3 shots required over a 6 month period. This vaccine is aimed at the four strains of the STD genital warts that are considered as being the cause of cervical cancer.
Once infected however, STD genital warts are fairly easy to treat. The most common way of treating STD genital warts is to burn the warts using an acidic solution or to freeze them using liquid nitrogen. Both processes are dependent upon the doctor handling your case and your specific requirements.
