Background of the Emergency Medical Response Group

Medical emergencies happen anywhere, even in places that we regard as safe ones. Recognizing this risk, the George Washington University student body established its own Emergency Medical Response Group back in 1994. In fact, the group initially used bicycles as their emergency response vehicles, but were able to get their own especially marked vans a few years later.

Also known as EMeRG, the multi-awarded Emergency Medical Response Group is made up of volunteer students of both undergraduate and graduate levels of the school. While the group does have pre-med students, it also has a good number of members who are taking up other non-medical disciplines. The important thing is that members of the Emergency Medical Response Group are all duly certified Emergency Medical Technicians who can take on various emergency medical services.

Services of the Emergency Medical Response Team

The services of EMeRG are two-fold. The group not only provides basic lifeline services to the school community but also gives first aid, CPR and health education to any interested individual or group.

EMeRG is always on hand during sporting and other events held at the university. You can contact them anytime through their hotline number, since they operate on a 24/7 schedule.

You can feel secure that each member of the Emergency Medical Response Group has had the proper training in first aid, CPR and paramedics. They are all certified to provide these services. They have adequate first aid facilities in their van so that you're in good hands as they bring you to the nearest hospital or medical facility.

Aside from providing services for medical emergencies, the group also offers training and certification courses. You can take CPR or first aid certification courses, or even a combination of both. Course lengths range from three to eight hours. While course prices are quite reasonable, they are also tentative and depend on number of attendees.

Joining the Emergency Medical Response Group

If you're interested in becoming a member, you must undergo screening with the group. One of the qualifications is that you must be a bonafide student of the school. The group also has its own set of other criteria and will evaluate you based on them.

You need to check the website or contact EMeRG for the recruitment dates and for other inquiries about membership.
