There are many kinds of headaches. There are headaches with flu, headaches with cold, and headaches due to bad weather. And then there are migraine headaches. It is perhaps the most painful headaches one can suffer from. This is a chronic disease that has no absolute cure but can be prevented from making it unbearable for the sufferer. Experts still cannot predict who becomes more vulnerable to migraine headaches. Although they can be sure that heredity is one factor and that it occurs more often in women.

There are three kinds of migraine headaches symptoms: migraine without aura, migraine with aura, and mixed tension migraine. Most sufferers tend to experience the migraine without aura. They do not have the warning signs before an attack. Some people have the migraine with aura symptoms, where the patient experience visual disturbances before the attack. Mixed tension migraine features both migraine and tension headache. Migraine headaches symptoms range from mild to severe pain that is made worse by physical activity. Migraine headaches symptoms are always accompanied by other symptoms. Some of these are nausea, sensitivity to light, sound, or odors during the attacks. Symptoms of migraine headaches tend to be one-sided, meaning the pain is occurring only on one part of the head.

The course of the pain during these attacks may range from ten minutes up to seventy two hours. And the frequency of these attacks could be about twice a month. Many factors can trigger a migraine attack. Traveling in high altitude, shifts in time schedules, too little sleep or too much sleep, stress, weather or hormonal changes are just a few of the factors that can trigger an attack.

The patient should pay close attention about the triggers of his disease so he could try to prevent future occurrences to minimize the frequency of the attacks. There are medications that help prevent the attacks. Caffeine in combination with a painkiller or headache medicine may help relieve the migraine pain.
