What a Cruise Involves

Going off on a cruise involves some careful planning. Apart from sightseeing and enjoying the fresh air and scenery, you will also have the option to participate in on-board social activities. These include dinners, shows, sporting events and games.

Therefore you need to bring the proper clothes and accessories that will help you enjoy the cruise. In most cruises, your accommodation will be very limited so you should not bring too many things with you.

Points to consider before preparing your cruise packing list are the length of the cruise, the itinerary, and the activities you will be participating in. Cruise packing lists will also differ between men and women, since women need to bring a lot more things.

Required Items That Should be Part of Your Cruise Packing List

Since most cruises involve travel outside of the country, you need to bring your passport, travelers checks and tickets for the airlines and cruise. You also have to bring a valid identification document such as your driver's license, and your medical insurance card in case of any emergencies. To prepare for any unexpected expenses during the cruise, you should also bring a major credit card that is valid in the country you are visiting, and cash in smaller denominations for occasional tipping or minor needs. Bring along a list of contact numbers of loved ones and your medical insurance provider, as well as that of any people you need to keep in touch with during your cruise.

Other Necessities for Cruises

When going on a cruise, you need a wide variety of attire to wear for different events. Most of the time, you just need light sportswear and comfortable walking shoes. Don't forget your swim wear if you plan on using the ship's pool or bask in the sunshine. Aside from sports wear, you also need to bring some dressier items to wear for evening meals and cruise events. The same thing applies to footwear.

Most cruise ships have stores on board where you can purchase your toiletries, and cruise bathrooms provide soap and shampoo in disposable packs. However, if you have particular toiletry needs, you can bring your own toiletries. Keep them in smaller bottles or containers, and bring along the prescriptions for medicine that you need on the trip.

If you need to contact anyone during the cruise, such as business associates, include your cellphone in your trip packing list.

Optional Items in Your Cruise Packing List

Electronic gadgets such as laptops, cameras and MP3 players help you enjoy the trip, but are not necessary. Consider bringing them only if you really need to use them, and make sure they are stored in bags of durable material.

Umbrellas, sunglasses, reading materials, flashlights, and tool kits help provide you with more fun and comfort. Make sure that you have enough space in your luggage, before including these items in your trip packing list.
