Needs of Daycare Users

The principal clients of daycare centers are small children under ten years of age. Children of this age range develop most rapidly and need the right facilities to stimulate and hone their intellectual and motor skills.

As the owner of a daycare center, you need to provide the right resources to help your wards develop skills, in terms of school materials, supplies and equipment. Your daycare center must have a conducive environment for learning and for maintaining the emotional and physical well-being of the children.

Another major consideration is the safety of the children who stay at your daycare center. Their parents have entrusted them to you, and it is your responsibility to ensure that the children are properly supervised and cared for. The facility must be clean and sanitary, and the food must be compliant to nutritional standards.

Planning Your Daycare Facilities

Before you open a daycare center, you need to plan it carefully. Determine the sizes of each area of the daycare center, such as the playground, classroom, restrooms, workshop and kitchen. Knowing the dimensions of each area will help you decide what daycare equipment and other supplies you should have. The children should have enough room to move around.

Based on the curriculum you will be using, you need to acquire books, boards, writing instruments, and learning aids. You also need to install cabinets, tables and chairs. You should provide storage containers for all the supplies.

Indoor Daycare Facilities

Divide the room into different activity centers to highlight special interests. Each activity center should have enough daycare equipment for three to four children to share with each other.

Colorful toys and other daycare equipment should be age-appropriate in order to stimulate learning and enthusiasm. They must be non-toxic, compliant to safety standards, and durable against occasional rough handling.

Electronic equipment like computers and sound systems can be used for teaching language, mathematics, music and arts.

Playground Area

The playground is where physical activities take place, so make sure that the equipment there has safety features.

Swings should have chains around the seats to prevent accidental falls, and the legs must be able to stand firmly on the ground. Playground equipment should be able to withstand impact and extreme weather patterns. Unless the equipment is on a grassy area, provide safety pads on the ground to cushion against falls.

Care of Your Daycare Equipment

Your daycare equipment should always be in good working condition. Clean your equipment every day after use. You can even train the children to return every item to its proper place. Refrain from letting children use any damaged equipment, and have them repaired or replaced promptly.

Check each piece of daycare equipment for any damage. Make sure that electrical cords and outlets are out of the way and can't be reached by small hands.

Buy your daycare equipment only from reputable suppliers. You can check out product reviews and prices through various daycare information websites.
