What is service-disabled veteran insurance?

This program came into being in 1951. It was designed to cater for the insurance needs of you the veteran who has service connected disabilities. This veteran benefit program comes in a number of permanent plans and term insurance.

Who can apply?
You have to meet 4 criteria to be able to apply
1. You left active service after April 25 1951 and you weren’t dishonorably discharged.
2. You received a service-connected disability rating.
3. Your health is good apart from the service connected condition.
4. You have time to apply within a 2 year period from the time you were granted your service-connected disability.

How do you apply?
Fill in a form online – it’s as easy as that!

Totally disabled veteran premium waiver
This veteran policy even has a premium waiver in the event of total disability – under certain conditions. If you carry basic coverage and became eligible for this waiver because of total disability you can apply for an additional supplemental insurance.

Supplemental Insurance
Premiums are not waived on this extra coverage.
You are eligible if:
1. You are eligible for premiums waiver.
2. You apply within a year of the date of your receiving your notice of waiver.
3. You are under 65 years of age.

You can either fill out a special form and write a letter of request for this supplemental insurance.

Veteran Mortgage Life Insurance

What is it?
It is a program which enables severely disabled veterans to have mortgage life insurance. What is it designed to do? – to pay off your home mortgage in case you die.

Who is eligible?
You are only eligible if you have the Specially Adapted Housing Grant. What is this grant? It helps you the veteran construct or change your home in order to accommodate your disabilities.
