The obligation to enforce maritime laws of the United States is given to the coast guard. As part of maritime law enforcement responsibilities, the agency helps in the implementation of applicable federal laws such as the Jones Act Maritime law, treaties with other countries, and other international agreements concerning the high seas and waters covered by the jurisdiction of the United States.

Maritime law enforcement involves maintaining the security of all the borders, harbors, and ports of the United States.
