The Futurama Animated Series

Futurama is a popular adult-themed animated series set in New York during the 30th century, where space travel is as easy as going to the next city, and interacting between aliens and Earth people are everyday scenes.

Futurama's episodes revolve around a motley crew working for the Planet Express, a delivery and errands company. The group is headed by a mad scientist named Professor Farnsworth who is obsessed with inventions and who often sends the crew to missions for his purposes. Philip Fry is a New York pizza vendor who is actually from the 21st century, but gets accidentally frozen and revived in the 30th century. He is quite attracted to Leela, a one-eyed sexy female mutant who often shrugs him off. Bender is the wacky misfit robot who seems to possess all the negative qualities, and is also Fry's best friend. Lobster-like Dr. Zoidberg is the staff physician, and Amy Wong is the Martian-born but ethnically Chinese super-wealthy engineering student. And Hermes Conrad is a Jamaican bureaucrat who often admonishes the crew about their lack of adherence to rules.

The series is quite popular with the American TV-viewing public because of its kooky characters and the way that each episode alludes to current social or environmental issues, and to specific celebrities. The series successfully showed from 1999 to 2003 but ceased for a while until 2007.

Season 3 Episode 14: Time Keeps on Slipping

In Time Keeps on Slipping, the universally-famous Harlem Globetrotters drop in on the crew and challenge them to a game and beat their still-undefeated winning record.

Professor Farnsworth bravely accepts the challenge. When his crew expressed their apprehensions about going against the basketball magicians, he assures them that he has a special team of super babies that he can field as the team. He simply needed to gather some chrontrons from a nebula to accelerate their growth into supermen. He sends the team to gather the chronitrons.

The supermen pitted well against the Globetrotters, but suddenly a time warp occurs. When Professor Farnsworth and Globetrotters captain Bubblegum Tate tried to figure out the cause, they learn that the frequent warps, by now wreaking havoc over Earth's time, were caused by the chronitrons. But the biggest threat was that time keeps on slipping until it reaches the destruction of the universe.

First they tried to divert the time skips by repositioning the stars around the nebula. When time keeping devices still showed warps, they had to resort to imploding the nebula using one of Professor Farnsworth's doomsday devices.

Feedback on Time Keeps on Slipping

Shown during the third season, Time Keeps on Slipping was one of the more popular and memorable episodes because of the presence of the Harlem Globetrotters.

The episode not only focused on the game, but also Fry and Leela's romantic connection. But though they get married in a future time warp, the marriage was immediately ended by Leela.
