The Promise RAID 0 is the lowest level of the Promise RAID, a storage system used by many operating servers such as MAC, XSan 2, and Final Cut Studio 2. The Promise Raid 0 was developed by Promise Technology, Inc., but their later models are now being sold via Apple stores. The RAID subsystem features the Promise Raid 0, as well as other levels such as 1, 1E, 5, 6, 10, and 50, with 60 being the highest RAID level. The most advanced development in the Promise RAID, however, is the VTrak E-Class RAID Subsystem which offers up to 32 drives of quality storage solution.

The Promise RAID 0 is basically a CPU and motherboard component. The Promise RAID 0 aims to merge the performance of two or more drives to ensure machine optimization on disk operations conducted in sequence. This is accomplished by the Primise RAID 0 card by a process most usually referred to as stripping, whereas the data is stored by stripping it or breaking it up in order to ensure the best performance of your hard drive. This also means that in order to use Promise RAID 0, you need at least two drives.

The Promise RAID 0 comes in three block dimensions: The Promise RAID 0 with 128 KB Blocks, the Promsie RAID 0 with 64 KB Blocks, and the Promise RAID 0 with 8KB Blocks. When conducted with a RAID 0 test, the 8KB Blocks proved to have doubled the CPU performance and utilization.

With the advent of much newer and more advanced Promise RAID technologies, there seems to be lesser purchase and utilization of the Promse RAID 0. Most users have opted to buy the more recent models, such as the VTRak E-Class. These storage solutions, however, are quite expensive ranging from 12,000 dollars to as much as 19,000 dollars. In addition, some users have complained of some difficulty in the installation of the Promise RAID 0 in systems such as the Windows XP. But this occurrence is one that may be expected, seeing as the recommended servers that use the Promise Technology is MAC and not Windows.
