GPS is an acronym for Global Positioning System. An altimeter is an instrument used for measuring altitude. An altitude is the distance of an object being measured above the ground. There are many kinds of altimeters. Pressure altimeters are used to measure the pressure of the atmosphere above the ground. Radar altimeters use radio signals. They are used in aircrafts.
