The youth comprise a large part of the market segments thus it is important for marketers to understand the concept of marketing to teens. Brand is an important consideration for teens so if you are marketing youth products then you first need to establish your brand on a teenager’s mind. In order to do this, you must know your product’s role in their life, meaning you have to know whether your product is a necessity or simply a gadget that can be considered fashionable. After you know this fundamental concept in marketing youth products, you will then have to know how to position your product.

Also, you cannot instantly go after the whole teen demographic segment in your area because there are many kinds of teens. Teens are at an age where they need to find their identity and one of their ways of doing this is to associate themselves with brands they can relate with. So it is not realistic to expect your product to become popular in the whole teen segment even though some teens immensely like your product.

Teens can be grouped into several types including the athletes, the honor students, the opinionated, the self-conscious teen, and the popular teens. You need to whom among these groups will appreciate your product the most. Targeting specific groups will make your product most likely succeed. But you need to be careful in marketing youth products too aggressively because teens want to discover products on their own. Because as was said earlier, they want to have their own identity and mass market products would not do it for them.

Niche marketing would be the most effective tool if you are marketing youth products because it lends a sense of exclusivity. Also, you need to note that there are influencers that can persuade other teens to either buy your product or not. So word of mouth marketing is one of the best tools to capture a big segment among the youth.
