DTV Receivers: Getting Ready for the Digital Transition

With the increasing sophistication of hdtv satellite broadcasting, federal law has seen fit to require that all broadcasting will stop using the analog format. All television broadcasts will soon be in all-digital format. If you want to continue enjoying your favorite television program, you will need to have dtv receivers in your home.

You should know that dtv receivers have a qualitative difference from the direct tv hd receivers. The dtv receivers make it possible for you to receive digital broadcast signals; this means the pictures displayed on your screen will be free of snow or shadow-images called ghosts.

High definition tv broadcasts have enhanced features over normal digital broadcasts, such as theater sound and surround sound, which the standard dtv receivers may not be able to fully capture. You do not need a high definition tv to watch standard digital programming.

If you are a subscriber to cable television or a satellite broadcaster, you should have few problems making the transition to digital broadcasting. The provider will very likely give you information about components you have to add. In the case of satellite television, the providers are offering the equipment such as directv hd receivers and directtv hd dvrs which you can purchase at favorable terms.

If you get only the traditional, free television programming over the air, you will need to know if your tv is digital ready. Most dtv receivers have appropriate markings on them that say they contain digital tuners. You can check your current set or its accompanying information manual, and if you have such markings you are ready for the transition.

You can buy a television set that comes with a built-in tuner; such units are called integrated DTV receivers. Alternatively, there are sets with separate outside-the-box digital tuners. Both types are true dtv receivers, and having them makes you digital ready.
