Attendance is one of the things you should look at as an employer to gauge if your employers are happy or not. Employee morale is very important for a productive workforce. You can check time and attendance regularly to find out if there are trends that will be useful for you.

Today, keeping track of attendance and time of your employees is easier because of all the available technology. There are swipe card systems available that will help you easily generate patterns in the attendance and time of your employees. Your employees will be issued swipe cards with magnetic strips that they will have to swipe whenever they get in or out of the office or the building. This way you can monitor how many times they went out or if they go out of the building or the office during work hours.

A more sophisticated version of this is the proximity card that doesn't require swiping. The proximity card can stay in the employees wallet and just put in near the terminal and he or she will be logged in.

Another innovated way developed to keep track of time and attendance are biometric systems. The most common biometric system uses the finger print in combination with a pass code for added security. This technology is available now and the prices of theses systems are happily going down.

Time and attendance tracking systems are getting more and more sophisticated. Systems that you thought were in science fiction movies are already being used like voice recognition and iris scan systems. As the price of software and hardware continue to go down, using these high tech time and attendance systems for small business will be viable soon enough.

Just remember that keeping employees satisfied with a good working environment is even more important than tracking time and attendance.
