Whether you irrigate turf, landscapes and nurseries, sprinkler irrigation is an option that may be worth considering. Sprinkler irrigation uses a single nozzle or a series of nozzles where water passes under pressure. As water travels across the nozzles with the help of the air, it is then broken down into droplets. These droplets come in different sizes which are distributed over the area of the turf, landscape or nursery. If the sprinkler irrigation system is properly installed, it can match the natural rainfall.

Types of Sprinkler Irrigation

The sprinkler irrigation system can be installed in a fixed location or you may choose to have it movable. If you choose a fixed lawn irrigation system, then the sprinklers have to be installed either pop-up or at constant height. With a movable sprinkler irrigation system, you can change its position by your hand or you can choose one with a self-propeller.

Crops, Slopes, and Soils Appropriate for Sprinkler Irrigation

You can use sprinkler irrigation for crops that you plant by row or on the field. Tree crops can also benefit from sprinkler irrigation. However, if you grow vegetable crops such as lettuce, then it is not usually advisable to use sprinkler irrigation because it might damage delicate crops.

One major advantage of sprinkler irrigation is its adaptability to different slopes. You can use sprinkler irrigation even to lands which are not suitable for leveling or when it would be too expensive to level the slope. When laying out the pipes for this type of irrigation, it should be done in such a way that it follows the land's curve or irregular shape.

While open, sandy and porous soil can benefit from sprinkler irrigation, it can also be used in almost all types of soil. Sprinkler irrigation provides a more uniform water distribution than other types of lawn irrigation systems.
