Individuals who would like to obtain further education can consider an accredited distance education as an educational alternative. Accredited distance education is ideal for people who are not able to attend formal schooling due to time constraints or other reasons. Accredited distance education also known as correspondence learning, is a type of schooling that occurs outside a classroom. Both student and teacher are located in two separate locations, and lessons are normally taught online or through correspondence. An accredited distance education means that the school has received a certification from certain educational boards that it has met certain quality standards.

Online graduate education such as a master’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree should only be obtained from an accredited institution. This is because employers will only consider your qualifications if schooling comes from an accredited institution.

Accreditation can be easily verified online. Certain educational councils provide a list of accredited schools online for the public to use. These councils do not just make a list of educational institutions found online and offline. An accreditation agency scrutinizes and surveys the programs and premises of the educational institution and makes use of standard criteria. If the educational institution meets these specific criteria, it is awarded an accreditation certification.

There are two types of accreditation that can be awarded. There is accreditation that is given exclusively for only one program, and there is a certification that accredits an entire school. Individuals who register for accredited distance education should therefore look into the school’s credentials carefully. It should also be noted that an accreditation is only good for a certain time frame. An educational institution must undergo revalidation of accreditation prior to the expiry date of the schools current accreditation.

Accredited distance education may cost you more than attending formal education in a classroom. Education loans can however be obtained to supplement the payment fees in the event there is a shortfall in cash. Some online distance schools also provide an installment scheme that allows you to pay for your tuition periodically.
