If you own a boat, then you know how important having a hydraulic boat lift is. A boat lift, in general, is a boating equipment specifically designed to transport boats, usually between two bodies of water that have different elevations.

There are basically three kinds of boat lifts available in the market today: standing lifts, floating lifts and mounted lifts. The use of each type of boat lift depends on several factors, such as the water level.

A standing boat lift is a good choice for lakes that have a firm bottom. It is best used for areas whose water levels do not fluctuate too much. Standing boat lifts can be made using either of two mechanisms: a vertical lift or a cantilever lift. If you need to lift your boat higher than 3 feet or if your boat is in shallow water, it is better to use a vertical lift. However, if you only need to lift your boat to less than 3 feet, cantilever lifts are a better choice.

On the other hand, a floating boat lift is a good choice for places with floating docks, although they may also be connected to seawalls or to standing docks. It is best for areas where the water is deep or fluctuating. You need at least four or five feet of water for floating boat lifts to work properly.

Meanwhile, mounted boat lifts are ideal for shallow water. These mounted lifts use a cable frame or slings, and a motorized winch, in order to lift the boat.

All these lifts can be given additional power assistance by turning them into hydraulic lifts. Hydraulic boat lifts are useful when used for boats that weigh more than 4,000 pounds. By using a hydraulic boat lift, you are able to lift your boat much more quickly, with no cables necessary.
