About Kauai

Called the Garden Isle, Kauai is the northernmost island in America's fiftieth state. Because of its typically Hawaiian ambiance and unique beauty, Kauai has been used as setting for many Hollywood films such as South Pacific, King Kong and Blue Hawaii.

Five Diverse Areas of Kauai

The North Shore is home to cliffs that rise 4,000 feet above sea level. It was believed to be the earliest settlement of Pacific island voyagers. You can explore several underground and underwater caves.

In the West Side is Waimea Canyon, nicknamed the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. This part of Kauai has lush forests and long stretches of white sand beaches that provide views of breathtaking sunsets.

The Coconut Coast is famous for its strange petroglyphs and sacred sites called heiaus. It has an arboretum that is home to eucalyptus, monkeypod and mango trees. It also has the Bell Stone, which when struck, resounds through the entire valley. The Bell Stone has been used to announce births.

Lihue is the island's county seat and center of commerce and government. You can visit Kauai Museum which showcases a lot of artifacts and memorabilia from the island's sugar cane plantations. There are two 18-hole golf courses and a wildlife sanctuary in the area.

Not to be outdone is the South Shore, with its beaches that are great for snorkeling. You can also visit the National Tropical Botanical Garden with its colorful and unique flora, and the Sprouting Horn with its unique lava formations.

Best Accommodations in Kauai

There are various hotels and resorts in Kauai, but they do tend to be expensive. On the other hand, there are cheap hostels and camping grounds which are great for students and casual travelers who are not particular about comfort or amenities.

But the best compromise between a luxury hotel and a hostel is the Kauai bed and breakfast accommodation. Kauai bed and breakfasts can easily accommodate four to six people, so they are convenient for families and large groups.

For the same rates as luxury hotel rooms, Kauai bed and breakfast places already offer complete kitchen and laundry facilities, and spacious comfortable bedrooms and living rooms equipped with TV and other modern appliances.

Many Kauai bed and breakfasts are conveniently located near beaches and town centers. Many also offer spectacular views of the ocean from the living areas so you get your money's worth.

Tips on Renting a Kauai Bed and Breakfast

You can look up Kauai bed and breakfast places through the internet, the same way that you do for Vermont or Whistler bed and breakfasts. There are several sites that can refer you to great places and give you detailed photo views and descriptions of each, along with the rental rates.

Each one comes with its own terms and conditions, which are highly diverse, so you might want to browse around carefully for the one that's right for you.
