Background of Chrysler

Chrysler LLC is an American car manufacturing that has been producing cars for over eighty years. In 1998, the company was part of the German car producer Daimler, which also famous for its luxury cars. Later in 2007, Daimler sold Chrysler to a private equity firm.

The first six-cylinder Chrysler automobile was released in 1924, and was well-received in the market. Four-cylinder types were later introduced. These models had innovative features that were not present in other cars at the time. This helped push the company into second place status in the US car market.

The company released various Dodge and Fargo trucks and the Jeep after several acquisitions. Chrysler also bought shares of Japan-based Mitsubishi Motors in 1971, which enabled it to produce more fuel-efficient compact models.

In later years, the company experienced a number of ups and downs, as well as being acquired by several foreign and local firms. Presently, Chrysler LLC has been collaborating with foreign car companies such as Tata of India and Fiat of Italy to come up with more efficient hybrids and compact models. The company was not immune to the current US financial crisis, but responded by applying for emergency loans along with competing companies.

Models and Submodels of Chrysler Mini Vans

As a result of Chrysler's past acquisitions and collaborations with other car companies, there is presently a wide variety of Chrysler mini vans. These Chrysler mini vans have been bestsellers in the US.

Among the earliest mini vans are the Plymouth Voyager, Chrysler Town and Country and the Dodge Caravan. These models could seat up to six or seven passengers, and had three doors and 2.5 to 4 liter engines. These vehicles became quite popular as they provided comfortable seating during long road trips, and were ideal for large groups and families. In fact, the Voyager and Caravan were listed among Car and Driver's best vehicles. After 2000, Chrysler discontinued its Voyager and Dodge mini vans but retained the Town and Country models.

Of the current Chrysler mini vans, the Town and Country models have been the most widely marketed. Like previous models of Chrysler, Town and Country vans had a number of firsts, including the first driver's airbag, integrated child safety belts, and anti-lock brakes. Under the Town and Country brand, Chrysler also introduced lower-priced and smaller submodels.
