Access has been a popular database management software of choice for many businesses and individuals. Access offer a great individual user experience but has its limitations. With the explosion of data and the need to share information over several computers with varying operating systems, SQL was designed to meet this challenge. It also offers better security that access.

There are many advantages of using a sql server to access use. One is the ability to allow multiple users to access the same database at once and be able to process huge amounts of data amounting to hundreds of megabytes without crashing. Access servers can't do that.

Another advantage of using a sgl server to access is the added security. Users are automatically required to put in a user name and password. Unlike with access that can be left on. If another person can have access to your computer, he would be able to access the data as well. SQL servers have built in security that requires a user name and password. Yes access has that too but most users don't even bother to password protect their database. SQL does this automatically.

We mentioned that SQL allows sharing of data by several people and also the processing of huge amounts of data. Access has a user friendly interface that most users are now familiar with. If you want to take advantage of the features of both database management systems, you can integrate your sql server to access.

This means that you can use access as your front end while sql works in the background in the server side of things. Users can view the data using access without even knowing that in the server side, sql is hard at work. The data is fed from the sql server to access front end seamlessly. That is the beauty of using multiple applications to arrive at a final product that is user friendly and powerful at the same time.
